What are the most sustainable materials?
It sounds like everything we wear is unsustainable and everything we buy is bad. Yes, when production goes up but prices go downâwhich is exactly what is happening in fast fashionâthen there are no sustainable ways of producing these clothes. In that sense, itâs all bad. However, that does not mean nothing can be done about it, because, naturally, some things can. Initiatives and first-movers are popping up everywhere with new sustainable production techniques and new eco-friendly textiles; materials that keep the promises they make and that donât only look green on the outside. It can be a really good idea to support these initiatives as a consumer. But, of course, itâs a question of balance. Personally, I have found that a 20/80 solution works great for me. Twenty percent of my wardrobe consists of new, sustainable brands, and 80 percent is secondhand. Maybe you find another balanceâthat does not make it wrong or any less valid. The most important thing to keep in mind is to reduce and avoid conventionally produced materials and fast-fashion products.
